Alexis Ward is an African American and Puerto Rican female visual artist and illustrator from Queens, NY. Her inspiration comes from past and present print and digital advertising and its power to address, explain, and convince viewers as accessible platforms. Likewise, Alexis’ posters make Black and Latino culture tangible, emphasizing their lives as meaningful, beautiful. Alexis focuses on the comforting, the nostalgia associated within the cultures like food, pop culture, tradition. The artist also confronts inequalities inflicted outside and inside the communities such as racism, colorism, tradition. Thus, Alexis seeks to stay in tune with who she is, where she comes from as a Black female artist, storyteller, taking up space one bold, colorful brushstroke at a time.
